Leadership & Faith – Yolanda Harrison & Elizabeth Jones
January 25 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
Yolanda and Elizabeth are a part of Mothers of Black Sons – Standing Against Death (MOBS – SAD).
Yolanda Harrison, Mother of Devan James Sprawling was murdered November 30, 2018 at the tender age of 20. Gifted in the arts, Devan aspired to a career in music and was sharing his musical talents with those he thought were friends when he was killed. Mrs. Harrison’s life will never be the same without her son; however, she is working to provide Leadership and display bold Faith to Mothers suffering from the loss of a child to gun violence. The strength and compassion displayed by Yolanda reflects the grace of God as she gives through her pain to assist the growing number of Mothers losing their sons weekly.
Elizabeth Jones, Mother of Kentarius “Peanut” Scott who was a rising graduating senior at Philander Smith College was murdered August 29, 2020. Full of life, energy and positivity, his body was left in the parking lot of Twin Peaks Restaurant on a Saturday night. Losing “Peanut” has taken a major toll on Ms. Jones’s social and emotional well being. It has been difficult for her to live and heal. Elizabeth continues to beg God for strength while learning the definition of forgiveness. While she trusts in the Lord with all her heart and believes that God will give her peace, joy, and healing which surpasses her understanding of her son’s death.
