Jonah 4:1-2 (the HEART of the book of Jonah, and the climax to the story!); see also Exodus 34:6, Psalm 86:5,15
Jonah’s a hot mess about God’s decision! Think about it. He spent THREE DAYS in a fish’s bowels, prayed, repented, was delivered from death’s door, obeyed God’s command, and an entire city was spared. And he was STILL a self-righteous JERK. What in the world will it take to get him to repent?
And then the Lord drops a bomb on Jonah with the same revelation He gave to Moses and King David (He also gave it by example and extension to many others in the Bible): “For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to ALL who call upon you.” (Ps 86:5, Jonah 4:2, Ex. 34:6)
